About ABS

ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene) is a workhorse engineering plastic known for its excellent heat resistance, impact toughness, and post-processing versatility. With an 84°C heat deflection temperature and a Vicat softening point of 94°C, it handles environments where PLA fails.

We print your ABS parts on professional enclosed FDM machines — controlled chamber temperatures minimise warping and deliver consistent mechanical properties. Its 1.05 g/cm³ density and high flow rate make it well-suited to fast-cycle production of functional parts.

ABS's most distinctive post-processing advantage is acetone vapour smoothing — a simple process that eliminates layer lines and produces a near-injection-moulded surface finish.

Automotive Interior Parts Dashboards, vents, trim, and under-hood brackets
Electrical Housings Enclosures, junction boxes, and cable management parts
Impact-Resistant Casings Tool housings, protective covers, and rugged enclosures
Mechanical Components Gears, pulleys, brackets, and load-bearing fixtures
Acetone-Smoothed Parts Mirror-finish housings and display-quality functional parts

Not sure if ABS is right for your application?

For smooth prints without warping risk, PETG is a strong alternative. For improved consistency in the same heat class, Hyper ABS is our preferred recommendation. For extreme temperatures or optical clarity, PC is available through our service.

Frequently Asked Questions

ABS excels in heat-resistant, impact-tough, and post-processable applications — automotive interior parts, electrical enclosures, consumer electronics housings, and functional prototypes that need acetone smoothing. It is the standard choice where PLA's ~50°C service limit is insufficient.
ABS has a heat deflection temperature of 84°C (at 1.8 MPa load) and a Vicat softening point of 94°C — significantly better than PLA or PETG. Suitable for car interiors, outdoor enclosures in moderate climates, and parts mounted near heat sources. For even higher temperatures, we recommend PC.
Yes — acetone vapour smoothing is ABS's key post-processing advantage. Exposing prints to acetone vapour dissolves the outer surface layer, eliminating visible layer lines and producing a near-injection-moulded finish. Ideal for display models, consumer-facing parts, and applications where aesthetics matter.
ABS has higher thermal shrinkage than PLA or PETG, which can cause warping without proper settings. Our enclosed FDM machines with controlled chamber temperatures (45–60°C) significantly reduce this risk. We follow strict print protocols to ensure reliable, warp-free results for your parts.
Standard ABS offers strong impact resistance (39 kJ/m²) and an 84°C HDT. Hyper ABS (also available through our service) is formulated to reduce warping tendency and improve surface consistency at higher speeds. For most applications requiring ABS-class properties, Hyper ABS is our preferred recommendation.
