SLA Resin Printing Service

Tough Resin — Impact-Resistant.
Functionally Strong.

Tough Resin is our engineering-grade photopolymer, formulated for functional parts that must survive mechanical stress, impact, and repeated loading. With 45–70 MPa flexural strength and up to 25% elongation at break, it bridges the gap between standard resins and engineering thermoplastics.

About Tough Resin

Tough Resin is a high-performance engineering photopolymer specifically formulated to resist impact and absorb mechanical stress without cracking. With a flexural strength of 45–70 MPa, tensile strength of 36–53 MPa, and elongation at break of 14–25%, it behaves far more like an engineering thermoplastic than a standard brittle resin.

We print your Tough Resin parts at layer heights as fine as 0.05 mm on professional SLA machines. Parts are cleaned in IPA and UV post-cured to maximise toughness and dimensional stability. Its ~1.195 g/cm³ density and Shore hardness of ~84D–85D mean parts are stiff yet resilient — they will bend slightly under load rather than snap.

Tough Resin is the resin of choice for functional prototypes, snap-fit assemblies, enclosures, joints, brackets, and any part where the brittleness of Standard Resin is unacceptable. It can be drilled, tapped, and heated slightly for press-fit inserts.

Functional Prototypes Mechanically loaded prototypes that must survive handling and testing
Snap-Fit Assemblies Clip connectors, latches, and living-hinge style components
Enclosures & Housings Electronic enclosures, sensor housings, and protective covers
Jigs & Fixtures Precision assembly aids that need toughness and fine geometry
Consumer Product Parts Brackets, joints, consumer housings, and end-use display parts

Not sure if Tough Resin is right for your application?

For fine visual detail without toughness requirements, Standard Resin gives a better surface finish. For optical transparency, Clear Resin is available. For high-temperature structural parts or large volumes, our FDM service with ABS or PETG is a better fit.

Frequently Asked Questions

Tough Resin is specifically formulated with impact modifiers that increase elongation at break to 14–25% (vs ~14.2% for Standard Resin at its upper range, but with much better consistency under impact loading). It is designed to flex slightly under stress rather than brittle-fracture. Standard Resin is optimised for surface detail and rigidity; Tough Resin is optimised for surviving mechanical use.
Tough Resin excels at functional prototypes that will be handled, tested, or loaded; snap-fit assemblies and clip connectors; enclosures and housings for electronic devices; precision jigs and fixtures; brackets and mounts; and any end-use part where the brittleness of standard photopolymer resin is the limiting factor.
Yes. Fully cured Tough Resin can be drilled with standard drill bits at low speeds, and tapped for M2–M5 threaded inserts. Parts can also be gently heated (60–70°C) to allow press-fit heat-set inserts. Avoid high drilling speeds as the material can chip at fine features.
Tough Resin delivers finer surface detail and tighter dimensional tolerances than FDM at equivalent layer heights. ABS and PETG are better for large structural parts (build volumes up to 300 mm+), higher temperatures, and lower cost at scale. Tough Resin is the preferred choice when fine detail and functional toughness must coexist in a small-to-medium part.
Our resin printers support a build volume of 210×118×220 mm for Tough Resin. For larger tough parts beyond this volume, we recommend our FDM service with ABS, Hyper ABS, or PETG, which cover build volumes up to 300 mm. Contact us and we will recommend the best material and process for your part.
